Ildebrando Pizzetti had a long and productive relationship with Naples, the Neapolitan musical environment, and especially with some of Alessandro Scarlatti Association’s musicians, such as Franco Michele Napolitano and Emilia Gubitosi. To properly reconstruct the relationship between Pizzetti and the Scarlatti Association, a key figure to be investigated is that of Giovanni Tebaldini: Pizzetti’s teacher in Parma during his directorship of the Parmesan Conservatory, Tebaldini was a friend and companion of both Salvatore Di Giacomo and Emilia Gubitosi in 1918–1919, namely those years in which the birth and the first concert events of the Neapolitan Society took place. The essay, which is divided into three paragraphs (The correspondence, The music, The musical offer), takes its inspiration from the materials kept in the historical Archives of Franco Michele Napolitano Foundation and the Scarlatti Archives and aims to focus on the salient features of the relationship between Pizzetti and the Benemerita. These correspond to the human and artistic dialogue with the artistic director and the Scarlatti’s choir teacher (respectively, Napolitano and Gubitosi), the deposit of manuscripts and printed music kept in the Library of the F. M. Napolitano Foundation, as well as the critical reception of Pizzetti’s works during the 1923–1969 seasons of the Scarlatti.
