The Mass in F major for four voices and instruments by Giuseppe Maria Orlandini (Florence, 1674–1760), presented in this Edition, holds many records. Alongside the Missa S. Josephi, it is the only known complete Mass within the sacred output of the Florentine composer. Neither of the manuscript sources, hereafter named “Prague” (based on their current location), is included in the list of sources, not even in the most relevant biographical entries. In fact, this Edition acknowledges the modern discovery of the Mass and paves the way for the examination of the composer’s sacred output, until now neglected because of the lack of sources.
