Luigi Gatti wrote many demanding solo parts for oboe and English horn, showing his familiarity with their technical and expressive possibilities. Two oboists were close to the Lazise master, Luigi Livraghi of Lodi during his Mantuan period and Pietro De Simoni of Palermo during his time in Salzburg. Besides giving a few biographical details about these two musicians, this study investigates the type of oboe and English horn they used.
