In the footsteps of a working cooperation begun within Erasmus+ project, respectively hosted by the Conservatory of Pescara and the Conservatory of Brussels, herein follows an interview between these two teachers. In addition to an initial evaluation of mobility and experiences deriving from the suggested masterclasses, these two musicians openly examine music of the second half of the 20th century and the aesthetic debate resulting from it: serialism, the relationship between art and politics, inspiration and the finished piece of work, the clear distinction between belonging to schools and stylistic currents and public funding. What modernity and which perspectives? In the end, the debate includes the current challenges of ‘modern’ music: from the relationship with the audience to the potentialities of the reform process which is currently taking place in both Italian and European Conservatories considered as privileged places to make music and do research.
