Since 1964, when Keith Mixter published an article on the biography of the important early fifteenth-century composer Johannes Brassart, several new documents relating to Brassart have been published, and several studies have placed his surviving works into the context of his working environments, from Liège to Rome. The present study examines several unpublished archival documents from archives in the Vatican, Liège and Tongeren to give sharper focus to certain key events in his life, such as the dates of his first and second visits to Rome, details of his various benefices, and more information about his association with Frederick III Habsburg, King of the Romans.
