Donato Ricchezza, a composer active in Naples between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, is still almost completely ignored by biographical and musical dictionaries, despite the fact that a considerable production of his sacred and oratory music has survived in the Girolamini Archive in Naples. Through newly found documents, the article outlines a more accurate biography of this composer starting from the place and date of birth (Matera, 17 June 1651) and death (Naples, 2 March 1731). Thanks to the documents, it is also possible to reconstruct his ecclesiastical career, as well as the years of his training at the Conservatory of Santa Maria di Loreto and his long activity, first as organist and then as maestro di cappella, at the Congregation of the Oratory (Girolamini) of Naples, between about 1680 and 1716.
