Una base di dati multimediale sui madrigali del Principe Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa

Carlo Gesualdo is certainly one of the most studied musicians in the field of madrigal. The musicologists have often been persuaded of his superb autonomy in comparison with the other great composers of his age; nevertheless a knowledge as much as possible complete of the Renaissance musical aspects – also the less attended ones – might raise some new questions on the entity and the truthfulness of such an opinion about the Prince of Venosa.

RIM (Rinascimento Musicale Italiano) is a bibliographical multimedia instrument, that allows to carry out full field researches into Italian music of the XVI and XVII century and therefore to verify textual and musical concordances.

The analitical and documentary potentialities of data-base RIM can be very useful to illustrate some aspect of circulation of the Gesualdo’s works and their connections with other composers in the late XVI century, during the period of the transition to monody.

Together with other multilinguistic musical catalogues, RIM can construct a new network for the musicological knowledge.
