The compilation of the Catalogus Musicalis, the oldest surviving inventory of music at Salzburg Cathedral, resulted from Luigi Gatti’s appointment as Hofkapellmeister in Salzburg in 1782. The paper discusses the significance of this catalogue for classification (dating, assignment of proveniences and authors etc.) of the surviving sources. Moreover, the Catalogus provides insights into repertory and music making at Salzburg Cathedral under changing conditions around 1800.
